Diagnosing Nutrient Deficiency Symptoms in Crop Plants
Nutrient deficiency occurs when an essential element is not available in sufficient quantity to meet the requirements of a growing plant. These nutrient deficiencies are often manifested as visual symptoms on plant parts that help recognize specific nutrient deficiencies. Early detection of a nutritional disorder by recognizing these symptoms can help to prevent major loss of yield by application of the required nutrient through fertilizer sources. >more
Adopt appropriate nutrient management to improve yield and quality of vegetables
Vegetables have become an integral part of cropping systems in the country. Despite being the second largest producer in the world, the productivity of vegetables in India is quite low . Vegetables have high nutrient demands and adequate supply of all limiting nutrients is required to ensure higher yield and quality of produce. >more
Potassium improves yield and quality of tomato in the red and lateritic soils of West Bengal with low inherent fertility
Considering the role of potassium in yield and quality of tomato, the effect of different levels of potassium on yield and quality of tomato, cv. S-120 were explored in a soil where the inherent potassium content is low. The experimental results clearly showed that application of adequate potassium is essential to improve yield and quality of tomato. This experiment also shows that the current state recommendation of 180:90:90 kg/ha of N:P2O5:K2O for tomato may prove inadequate to sustain and improve yield in the depleted red and lateritic zone of West Bengal. >more
