NEW PPI PUBLICATION: AGRICULTURE AND CULTURE OF COSTA RICA

March 1, 2006—Norcross, GA—A new 24-page, full color booklet titled Agriculture and Culture of Costa Rica was recently completed by the Potash & Phosphate Institute (PPI). The publication was produced by a collaboration called the Agricultural and Environmental Studies Project, including representatives of PPI, the Foundation for Agronomic Research (FAR), the University of Georgia, and cooperators involved with research and education in Costa Rica.

“This is not a typical agronomic publication that you might expect from us,” said PPI President Dr. Terry L. Roberts. “However, we hope this will be an effective resource for teachers, students, and others…it offers a fascinating view into the interactions among agriculture, culture, and environment in Costa Rica.”

Objectives of the effort include developing an interdisciplinary development course for teachers and effective agronomic learning resources with a “real world” and relevant perspective. PPI Assistant Editor Katherine P. Griffin visited Costa Rica with other partners in the project and guided preparation of the new booklet. Classroom-tested educational units that can be used as collateral material with the booklet are being prepared. Dr. José Espinosa, Director of the PPI/PPIC Northern Latin America Program (INPOFOS), was also instrumental in arranging visits and presentations with various university, industry, environmental, and other specialists in Costa Rica.

The new booklet is available for purchase from PPI at $US2.00 each.
