Building the Productivity of Leased Land
Building soil fertility and productivity on leased land is important to both the landowner and tenant. However, tenants with short-term rental agreements may find it difficult to justify capital investments such as fertility-building nutrient management and the application of aglime. >more
Cotton Responds to Sulfur
Scientists report that fertilizer sulfur (S) applied preplant to a sandy coastal plain soil improved cotton lint yields. Response to 20 to 30 lb S/A was measured when applied preplant or prior to first square growth stage. Cotton growing on low sulfate-S (SO4-S) soils showed a light green color of recently mature leaves. >more
Bermudagrass Needs N P and K
Bermudagrass stand survival, hay yield, and digestibility by animals were improved by nitrogen (N), phophorus (P), and potassium (K) fertilization. Fertilizer application following the first spring and before the last fall harvest was believed optimum for high yield, quality forage, and efficient use of nutrients by bermudagrass. >more
Cotton Disease Linked to Potassium Deficiency
High yield cotton requires potassium (K) in large amounts from first flower through boll development. Low concentrations of K in petioles are related to the cotton leaf spot due to the fungal organism stemphylium. >more
